A Travel Plan is a document that lays out the strategy for managing travel to and from a site.

Travel Plans are an effective tool to increase the accessibility of a site, particularly by sustainable modes, to reduce the impact of a site on the surrounding road network and to manage the use of local car parking capacity.

Travel Plans have two main purposes:

  1. To manage car use
  2. To improve accessibility

Broadly speaking, a Travel Plan will aim to promote modes of transport at the top of the road user hierarchy illustrated right, while encouraging people to make less use of modes towards the bottom of the hierarchy.
